Concussion Assessment

Treatment and Management

Service Description

A concussion is a brain injury that can occur with or without direct head trauma. While most concussions typically resolve within 1-4 weeks, some individuals may experience persistent symptoms beyond this timeframe. Common symptoms include headaches, neck pain, fatigue, dizziness, a sense of cognitive fog, and sleep disturbances. Therapy can play a crucial role in alleviating concussion symptoms and facilitating a return to regular physical activities. Our initial concussion assessment typically lasts 60 minutes and is designed to identify and prioritize symptoms associated with the concussion. The physical examination may encompass assessments of the head, eyes, neck, balance, and vestibular system. Treatment plans are tailored based on the assessment findings and may include a combination of education, graded exercise, manual therapy, vestibular rehabilitation, and oculomotor retraining. In certain instances, it's possible that a comprehensive initial assessment could temporarily worsen concussion or vestibular symptoms. For this reason, we recommend arranging for someone to ensure your safe transportation following your session.
